A moratorium imposed on accepting new applications for marijuana-related businesses in Monroe Charter Township won’t prevent those already approved from opening.

Kim Fortner, zoning enforcement officer with the township, said the six businesses that received special use and site plan approval from the township’s Planning Commission in October will be able to move forward so long as they sign an agreement with the township.

Those businesses must agree to only deal with recreational marijuana and not marijuana sold or cultivated for medical purposes, according to Fortner.

Such businesses will not be able to sell or cultivate medical marijuana because a municipal ordinance is required to do so per state regulations, she said.
