Mother’s Day is May 10. Things are different this year with the pandemic still being present. There are still ways to celebrate Mother’s Day while practicing social distancing. It’s a little harder to do if your mom has a compromised immune system and can’t go out to the few places that might be open. That’s okay though, we have some ideas to help you still make sure she knows how much you appreciate and love her.
Drop Off a Gift
Yes, we are telling you to “ding, dong, dash” your mom on Mother’s Day. Since a majority of the country is still under a shelter-in-place order, this can be a lot of fun. What you’ll do is place her gift on the doorstep and either ring the doorbell or knock and then run. Hide where you can’t be seen but you can see the door opening.
When she opens the door and sees the gift, try to snap a photo of her reaction. Then wait a few minutes and call her.
Even though you might not be able to sit at the same table or on the front porch enjoying each other’s company this year, there is still a way to celebrate mom on her special day. This method can be a lot of fun too!
Leave a Basket of Homemade Goodies
If you’re a baker or make family favorite recipes, make up a basket of mom’s favorite dishes and leave it for her. Moms often appreciate something handmade more than something purchased from a mass retailer. If you are one of the people that is working from home or off work completely, the time is likely there to spend a little extra time in the kitchen.
Even if what you make isn’t perfect, your mom will appreciate the fact that you took the time to make her something special.
Consider a Local Park or Large Backyard Gathering
How can you still have a gathering under a shelter-in-place order? Most states are limiting gatherings to no more than 10 people. This is still manageable for Mother’s Day. What you can do is choose a park with plenty of space that will still allow for ample social distancing to be practiced.
If you have a family member with a large yard, it is easier to setup tables with seats that are at least 6-feet apart. This will still allow everyone to be in the same general area. It’s ideal to wear masks just for safety purposes.
If you have a very large family, it might be best to setup visits in shifts, so-to-speak. One group could visit at one time and another later in the day.
Have Her Favorite Meal Delivered
If your mom has a favorite meal from a local restaurant, consider having it delivered to her. There are several restaurants that are offering free delivery. Those that are not delivering themselves are working with delivery services to help their customers get the meals they love. If you can’t go to mom’s favorite restaurant, bring the restaurant to her.
Some restaurants in some states are able to reopen with restrictions. It is best to check the restaurant’s website or social media to see what services they are offering. Many are opening at limited capacities of 25% — meaning that the lines to get in may be long and the wait times could be extended.
Have a Gift Shipped to Her
It’s not too late to have a gift sent to mom and she still receive it on time. Canna Trading Co. offers priority mail shipping. We are still open and are filling orders quickly. While the package may not arrive exactly on Mother’s day, it would arrive within a couple of days of it. CBD tinctures are great as Mother’s Day gifts. You could also print out some of our articles that offer recipes or DIY facials for her to use the tinctures in. Those could be dropped off, emailed or mailed to her as an extra gift.
Canna Trading Co. CBD tinctures are quite versatile. They can be used as-is, in food, added to lotion or used to make DIY spa treatments. Visit our blog and use the search feature for recipes and DIY guides.
If CBD isn’t ideal for your mom, there are other gifts that can be sent or delivered to her. Check with local crafters and view their handmade goods. Something handmade and unique is also very special. It’s also helping to support a small, local business. Some crafters may also be willing to deliver the gift to your mom’s porch to maintain social distancing and safety.
If visiting through a window or in a proper socially distant setting isn’t possible – use technology. If your mom has a computer or smartphone, setup a video call. There are also video conferencing options like Zoom and Google Duo where multiple family members could join in on the call. It’s a virtual gathering, but you will all be able to see each other’s faces.
Technology isn’t the way anyone wants to celebrate a special occasion, but in these strange times, we have to be able to adapt and think outside of the box. Once the pandemic has passed and it’s safe to live life normally again, everyone can get together and celebrate all of the special occasions that were altered due to the pandemic. It’s important to remember that this is just temporary and life will return to normal soon.
Even though we have to get creative for Mother’s Day this year, it’s still possible to show mom how much she is loved and appreciated. The ideas we’ve offered above are just a few options. Even surprising your mom by planting flowers in her yard as she sits inside is a fun idea. You can call her or get her attention through a window to look outside. She’d be very surprised. Think of things that your mom enjoys and start with that as your base for coming up with the best gift for mom this year if you can’t physically visit with her or do what you normally do to celebrate her on her special day.
